In today’s increasingly technological landscape people are switching to mobile devices to access content on the internet. To reflect this changing environment, BioMed Central journal websites have been updated so that users on mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablet computers, have an enhanced experience when viewing full text articles, making better use of small screen sizes and touch–screen functionality. Using a ‘responsive’ web design, journal websites automatically respond to the capabilities of the device that is being used, providing a mobile-optimized appearance.
